In 2001, we began raising puppies
for Guiding Eyes for the Blind, one of the most highly respected
guide dog schools in the nation. Over the next several years, we
raised or “started” five
puppies. “Starting a puppy” means to raise it while it is still too
small to be left alone all day by someone who works full-time. I am
fortunate that my writing allows me to work at home.
